Competition in the business world is fierce, with companies duking it out for their customers’ attention and money. The fight has moved from billboards and subway advertisements to online flame wars on social media outlets.
Wendy’s and McDonald’s just had an epic skirmish on Twitter. The battle began when McDonald’s tweeted about a new campaign: “by mid-2018, all Quarter Pounder burgers at the majority of our restaurants will be cooked with fresh beef.”
Good for McDonald’s, but Wendy’s has prided itself on being “fresh, never frozen” for years. They have only used fresh beef since they opened their doors in 1969. The official Wendy’s twitter asked sarcastically @McDonalds, “So you’ll still use frozen beef in MOST of your burgers in ALL of your restaurants? Asking for a friend.”
Wendy’s doubled down on offense when someone asked if, they were “starting beef” with McDonald’s, by answering, “We’ll stick to our fresh beef. They can have those ice chips they’re serving.”
The shots were fired but left unanswered by the McDonald’s account, prompting the sardonic, “They’ll probably get back to us by mid-2018” tweet from Wendy’s.
This is not the first time Wendy’s twitter has made headlines. When user @NHride called into question their claim that they use fresh beef, rather than frozen, they attacked back with a vengeance.
Apparently, the user was too thick to understand that they used refrigerators, thinking the company delivered their beef “raw on a hot truck.” Wendy’s answered with the sarcastic tweet, “Where do you store cold things that aren’t frozen?” When @NHride said McDonald’s was superior to them, Wendy’s replied, “You don’t have to bring them into this just because you forgot refrigerators existed for a second there.”
The user deleted their account. Wendy’s doesn’t negotiate with trolls, and defends itself in front of its 2 million followers. Beware next time you have any doubts about their burgers. If you do happen to have a question, it’d be smart to direct message it to them.
