Memories can be heartwarming to look back on. Of course, they can also be the exact opposite. Thanks to the new 10-Year Challenge, Demi Lovato has shared quite an opinion on the reality of looking back.

Everywhere you look, people are experiencing memories differently than ever before (thank you, Facebook). There are all kinds of apps allowing you to document and then review the moments of your life in every text and image format imaginable, and people are coming up with creative ways to enjoy them.
One example? The 10-year challenge.
You’ve probably heard of it already, if not actually taken part. The 10-year challenge encourages everyone to find a picture of themselves from 10 years ago, and make a side-by-side comparison of it with a recent picture.
To which Demi Lovato says, “No thanks.”
Why? 10 years is a lot of time, and whether anyone wants to or not, they go through a lot of growth. In our society, growth is thought of as a pretty good thing, even if it takes jumping through rings of fire. Not to mention, tons of other celebrities including Madonna, Chance the Rapper, Reese Witherspoon, and Caitlin Jenner have been celebrating the time past with 10-year challenges of their own.

But Demi doesn’t want any of it.
It’s no secret that after a recent relapse, Demi has had enough challenges for the time being. Despite this, she doesn’t seem to be running away from anything in her past with this statement, either. Essentially, she says she’s happy with where she is today – without looking back to the past to relish in the bettering of a different version of herself. The Demi Lovato from 10 years ago can stay 10 years in the past, according to her.
There’s a lot to be said for this attitude as well. Looking to the past can highlight a lot about changes that have come to pass, whether good or bad – but all the answers you really need are ready to be found inside as well.
And Demi Lovato is here to challenge the 10-year challenge back: Live in the moment.
