Disney Are Using Real Shelter Dogs For Their Lady And The Tramp Live Action Movie

Most of the films that Disney seems to release nowadays are live-action adaptations of animated classics. We’ve already seen Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Cinderella get the remake treatment, and it seems Lady and the Tramp is one of the next on the list. If new reports about the movie’s cast are anything to go by, this film is going to be a good one.

Working With Animals

While most of Disney’s animated films have been easy to turn into live-action movies, some of them have been a little more challenging. The reason for that is related to the cast being primarily talking animals. That’s pretty difficult to recreate in the real world. Lady and the Tramp is one such example, so the company had to turn to real dogs to find the film’s stars.

A Cast Of Rescues

Rather than picking professionally trained animals to star in the movie, it seems Disney chose to use shelter dogs instead. The move is one that’s been widely praised by fans who are glad to see the company trying to make a difference in these dogs’ lives. The role of Tramp will reportedly be played by Monte, a young terrier mix who used to reside at HALO Animal Rescue in Phoenix. The staff at the rescue were delighted when they learned that he got the part.

Quick Learners

Although these dogs may not have known what they were doing, it seems they were very quick learners. The animals received three months of training before they were put in front of the camera, and the results can be seen in a few months time. The movie is set to debut in November, although only subscribers of Disney’s new streaming service will get to watch it.

We can’t wait to see how these rescue dogs fared in their first major Disney movie.
