Looking At The Moon
We’ve all seen that glowing white ball in the sky at night, otherwise known as the moon. Most of us have never really had a good look at it though, and mostly we just see it from the hundreds of thousands of miles away that we are.
Sure it can look a little bigger at times, but basically, we aren’t getting a good look at it. Wylie Overstreet wanted to change that and brought his $1,000 telescope to the streets of LA to give people a glimpse at the moon in a new way.
Getting A Reaction From People
Overstreet’s telescope isn’t exactly small, and people became curious whenever they walked past him on the sidewalk. Firstly they wanted to know what it was, and once they did, they all asked if they could have a look through it. Once they got a super close look at the moon, they all had very similar reactions.
Most people just said, “Oh my God” or “No Way” when they were able to look at the moon so closely. People were amazed they could see it in such detail and were impressed by the fact they could see the craters. Others felt as though they could just reach out and touch it.
Bringing People Together
In bringing his telescope to the public, Overstreet was able to bring people together. The people all came from different walks in life but instinctively had the same reaction to seeing something so magnificent. Overstreet felt as though his experiment was “A great reminder that we should look up more often.” The video he put together of people’s reactions was so moving that it made Vimeo’s “Staff Pick” in 2018.
Who knew that looking up at the sky could be so moving? Overstreet knew how powerful the moon could be while looking through his telescope and just wanted to share the experience with others.
