After 60 Years Of Friendship, Canadian And Australian Pen Pals Finally Meet Up

Some of us have friends for years, but what about one that we’ve never met our entire lives? That’s right; two women had been pel pals for 60 years, yet they had never seen each other in person. That was until now.

The Start Of It All

Lyn Carpenter lives in Adelaide, Australia, and was just 10 years old when she got a Canadian address of someone who she wanted to have as a pen pal. Little did Lyn know that she was about to build a long-lasting friendship with Delores Bailey, a fellow 10-year-old living in British Columbia, Canada. It wasn’t long before the pair realized they had plenty in common – including their love of the Beatles.

Growing Their Friendship

The two women continued to talk, but it wasn’t long before their friendship went much further than just letters. The two began to email, text, and even call each other even though they still lived hundreds of miles away. Lyn and Delores stopped talking for a couple of years as they both had children, but they soon picked up where they left off. 60 years passed without them ever meeting in person.

A Bucket List

That was all about to change when Dolores decided that she wanted to head to Australia. In fact, she put it on her bucket list to finally meet her pen pal after they had been talking for six decades. It wasn’t long before Dolores stepped off the plane and the two women were finally able to embrace one another. This was the chapter they had both longed for in their friendship.

The First Of Many

Lyn admitted that Dolores is her longest friend, and both women confessed it felt as though they had known each other the entire time, even though this was the first moment they had met face to face. Lyn busied herself showing Delores the sights of the area while they continued to plan more adventures together in the future. This was just the first of many meetings they hope to have.

They might have been friends for decades, but it took 60 years of messaging back and forth until Dolores and Lyn were finally able to meet. Now, it looks as though they can enjoy the next chapter of their everlasting friendship.
