One part of the job a songwriter has is to evoke emotions in people. That can be through the lyrics they choose to write or the sweet melody they play. Singer-songwriter Andy Grammer wrote a song to his daughter, but it wasn’t from him, it was from his mom who passed away years ago.
Andy Grammer wrote on his social media page that he wrote his new album for the people out there who remain positive through everything they face in life. The artist wanted the positive people in the world to stay happy against the tides of negativity that are all too common in today’s society. Grammer wanted those happy people to not “let the world turn down your shine.”
Losing His Mom
Andy Grammer lost his mom to cancer when he was 25, but she has always stayed with him throughout the years. He had a phone conversation with a medium as a gift from his wife, and that medium told him his mother was coming through. Andy Grammer’s mother wanted her son to write a song for his daughter, but to say what he thought his mom would say to her if she were alive.
A Love Letter From Grandma
Grammer explained in his social media post how he emotionally revealed to the choir what this song meant to him. Members of the musical group then felt the same thing Grammer did and realized they missed their own parents. Grammer described the song he wrote for his daughter as a “love letter from her grandma.”
His mom never got to meet her granddaughter, but through this song, Andy Grammer’s child will know her grandmother a little better. He was convinced that if his mom were still here, then the lyrics in this song were what she would say.
