Having full vision can be something that many of us take for granted, but what about if there was a way that we could give back to those with partial vision or blind people? It seems as though this app is about to do just that.
How It Works
The app is called Be My Eyes and is a simple system that anyone can use. Those that might be in need of some help can send out an alert to any volunteer. Then, their request gets diverted to the first person to answer the call who can help with whatever task it is over a video call. If no one answers, the message is forwarded on until someone picks up their phone.
The Varied Tasks
Be My Eyes has helped many visually impaired or fully blind people with all kinds of tasks. Some have used it to ask with help reading invitations or to check expiry dates while other users have needed assistance reading hotel menus. In fact, some users have even reported calls when helping to pick out the perfect color sweater! It seems as though there is nothing too big or too small when it comes to helping out those with reduced vision.
Feeling Fulfilled
As well as being able to help out someone in need, many volunteers have reported how they are left feeling fulfilled after answering a call. Some have spoken about how they got chatting to people they have aided and even made friends with those on the other end of the call.
Plenty of Help
Thankfully, it seems as though the chances are that there will always be someone on call on Be My Eyes. Although there are more than 112,000 people signed up that might need assistance, there are almost 2 million volunteers all waiting to help. In fact, there are so many on hand that many users admit they have had the app for months without receiving a call!
While many of us love to help out those in need, it seems as though it’s now got easier than ever thanks to Be My Eyes. Now, we can be on call around the clock from the comfort of our own home yet still help to make someone’s life better.
