We live in a world where everything comes with a price. Whether that means the food you buy in the store, or the actions that you take during your working day. However, there are many people in this world who don’t have the resources on them to pay the price for everyday necessities. Because of this, you sometimes need to make a few exceptions to this rule. When one cafeteria worker bypassed the rules for one day, she was ultimately fired for her actions.
The Woman In Question
To truly understand this story, we need to learn a little more about the woman in question. Bonnie Kimball was a cafeteria worker at Mascoma Valley Regional High School in New Hampshire. Although she worked in the school, she was officially employed by a food vendor by the name of Fresh Picks. However, her employment was terminated on March 28 when she was caught giving a student free food.
Paying It Back
The student didn’t have the money to pay for his lunch there and then, and Bonnie didn’t want to let him go hungry. She was familiar with the student, and she even knew his mother, and she knew that this wasn’t a regular occurrence. In fact, Bonnie told The Associated Press that she could have called his mother there and then and she would have paid the money the next day. However, she didn’t want to bother the mother while she was at work, so decided to wait for the boy to come back with the money the next day. Unfortunately, the student didn’t get the chance to repay her.
Offering Her A Job
When Fresh Picks learned of Bonnie’s actions, they immediately fired her. This news made the rounds across New Hampshire and social media as a whole, and it wasn’t long before celebrity chef, José Andrés heard her story. He was impressed by her tenacity and her compassion, and he decided that she could be a great addition to his team. As the owner of the non-profit organization, World Central Kitchen, José was always on the lookout for those who wanted to help others – and Bonnie was the perfect fit.
It’s not known whether Bonnie accepted the offer or not, but there’s no doubt about the fact that she would fit in well!
