In an act of kindness and altruism, a man from Utah has been recycling old, out-of-use coolers and transforms them into homes for stray cats. With over 150 makeshift cat houses made thus far, he has certainly helped provide respite for many strays.

Every Creature Deserves a Second Chance
Philip Rogich started making these recycled homes for stray cats in his home community of Ogden back in November. He believes that every living creature has the right to have all their basic needs met. It’s his hope that, by making these houses, he’s giving these feral cats a second chance. Philip believes that many if not most people probably have an old cooler they no longer use taking up space somewhere, and he’s accepting them as donations to further this cause.
How He Recycles the Coolers
Making a shelter out of a cooler starts by drilling a hole in its side using a 6-inch drill bit. To protect the furry creatures from getting scratched on the rugged edges, he lines the hole with pipe insulation foam. The cooler can then be filled with straw to provide comfortable bedding. Over the course of the last few months, he managed to make over 150 of these cat cooler shelters and he placed them in different locations around Riverdale and Ogden. However, he had to put his project on pause because he had to move homes.
Since Philip posted pictures of this project on his Facebook charity page, the story spread and reached many people very quickly. It’s interesting and heartwarming to know that many social media users got inspired by his project and started crafting similar shelters for their hometowns. Just because we can’t pat them doesn’t mean we can’t love feral cats, and this man’s inspiring act of kindness proves that!
